First Dad Post

I've spent to long waiting on Erin to get a break from the toils of Nuggetcare to make a post, so I'll write one myself from the luxurious freedom of a corporate cubicle.  I can't bare to see a great attempt at mommy blogging fall away in less than a year, and I think one day Elia will be grateful.  Or embarrassed.  Hopefully both.

Last time on "Keeping up with the Kiddos", we saw Elia being cute at just under 1 year.  Now see her as she moved into the cool-adventure-kid phase that involves a lot more waddling, walking, and even reading.  And she ate a little bit of mud last night while Dad was on duty.  What's not to love?

Recently in the life of Nugget:
I always clean up Nugget's plate for her.  I ate the
other 90% of this smash cake at 10pm that night.
There's no doubt that Elia's biggest moment of fame thus far has been her 1st birthday party.  Unbeknownst to me prior to the planning phase, apparently 1st birthdays are a huge deal (or at least Erin felt pressure to make it so).  So we (mostly Erin) whipped out a grand Irish-themed party to appease Elia's love for St. Patty's day.

Oh, for the love of pigtails.
As do all things, Nugget's hair eventually grew too long in the front.  There came a beautiful coming-of-age evening when, in the middle of dinner, Mama fetched the shears and trimmed the bangs of this young one.

Millions upon millions of thin little green toys
As the temperatures rose, so did our delight with our new house, because we got to spend time in our lovely back yard!  It's fenced in, so I can trust Nugget to play safely back there while I grill, do woodworking or what not (except when she plays with the ashes in the fire pit and turns into a soot monster).  There's no fence in this picture, so who knows where it was taken, but she loves the outdoors none the less!

Elia used our shrink ray on her car seat, bummer.
The Nugget has no idea, but Mom has been secretly brewing another baby in her belly for 3 months now.  We have Nugget 2 due on Christmas, and so we're glad Elia's moving on to bigger baby things and being somewhat self-reliant, little by little.  We will miss little nugs, but I (perhaps more than Erin) am excited to see her grow up and teach her all kinds of things.

Elia has mastered walking!  It took her until around Memorial Day, so over 14 months, but she's a careful babe and didn't want to test her vertical limits until she was ready.  Boy oh boy, walking Nugget sure does make things easier (laundry) and harder (almost everything else) at the same time.  Oh, and I suppose walking makes her a little more tired and a better napper, in theory.

Markie and Andrew Murphy, our close friends who have recently moved 2 hours away, came back to visit us in North Canton one weekend in June, and Markie did Elia's 3rd photoshoot!  That's why the pictures all look so shiny and beautiful (and because Nugget hadn't managed to soil that outfit yet).  We had such a fun weekend with them and their 6 month old Elliot.

"Ella" is the first real name that Elia has perfected (I'd say Oma was first)
And let's not forget the fun we had the following week (last weekend) on our church camping trip!  More than 50 of us including kids spent Thursday-Friday night at Salt Fork Lake sharing campfires, meals and stories and having a great time on the lake and beach in the afternoon.  Elia had a fun time with me on her first 2 kayak rides and splashing in the water.  There was very little napping involved, but she, Ella Thomas, and Carter Keene all played well together.  And Elia is becoming more mothering every day, even feeding Ella her lunch.

We're excited to go see baby Jack Swanson and his wonderful parents this weekend, and then to see Oma and Opa the weekend after en route to a wedding.  Pretty soon Elia's going to be learning lots of words, but I still think it's cute that for now, she calls almost everything "dada".
